E = Environment = Environment
The environment in which elders live has a great deal to do with their behavior. When the environment is disturbing to the elderly, the chances of having wandering behavior are greatly increased. Therefore, the environment should be improved as much as possible, for example:
- Adequate lighting in the home
- Don't put too many cluttered objects and decorations in the home, as too many objects may cause excessive sensory stimulation and make the elderly feel uneasy.
- Put away things that will remind the elderly to leave, such as keys and shoes.
- Put some reminders at the door of the room, e.g. “Toilet” or “Restroom” at the door of the toilet, or the elderly's own room can be labeled with his/her name and photo.
- Decorate the home with some of the elderly's personal favorites.
- Decorate the front door of the home so that it does not look like a front door.
