After listening to the old local song "Rose, Rose, I Love You," the mother-in-law with dementia, who used to say one word a lot, not only smiled more, she even recalled her dancing past and expressed her desire to put on high heels and dance, which made her daughter laugh.
Tung Wah Group of Hospitals commissioned the Behavioral Health Teaching and Research Center of the University of Hong Kong to design music rhythm activities for the elderly with dementia. The study was conducted from October 2014 to September last year. Among the 73 patients who participated, 40 participated in two sessions per week. A half-hour music rhythm activity lasted for 8 weeks, and another 33 people participated in daily home activities. The results showed that musical rhythm can improve agitated behavior, with the average agitated behavior score reduced from 3.38 to 1.45 (the higher the score, the more agitated), with an improvement rate of 57.1%.
